The Institute

The Institute for Central-Eastern and Balkan Europe (IECOB)

In December 1995, scholars from European and American universities connected through the Europe and the Balkans International Network founded the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica (IECOB), the Institute for Central-Eastern and Balkan Europe, at a notary's office in Bologna.

From the start it was backed by the Alma Mater – University of Bologna, the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the city councils of Forlì, Cervia and Bologna, and the main banking foundations of Emilia-Romagna.

The Institute was based in Forlì, in premises provided by the University at its Forlì campus. Its ties with the university grew over the years, notably through the campus's master's programmes such as MIREES, and through CECOB.

It had a scientific board drawn from the network and hosted visiting fellows from partner universities; this guide does not reproduce individual profiles.
