Hello, my name is Maria Pitukhina. I come from Karelia region in northwestern Russia, between Finland and St.Petersburg. I have always been interested in studying languages; I speak English and Italian and have also studied Finnish (for 6 months) and Swedish (for 4 years). My other interest has always been in international relations, so I chose this as my major. When I was in my second year of studies I knew that I wanted to continue with a PhD. For my PhD studies I was awarded a scholarship as part of the Tempus Tacis “UNEGO” project to do research at the University of Genova, Italy, and the Swedish Institute. I was also awarded a medal by the Russian Ministry for Education and Research for my Master’s thesis as "the best scientific paper" in the field of political science among 600 Russian universities. Subsequently I successfully defended my PhD dissertation in International Relations at St.Petersburg State University. The topic was "The European Vector of Italian Foreign Policy: Problems and Perspectives at the End of the 20th and Beginning of the 21st Centuries". Currently  I am doing a postdoc programme at the University of Bologna, Institute for Eastern and Central Europe and the Balkans. I received a fellowship for this study period from the Erasmus Mundus - External Cooperation Window. During my internship in Italy I am writing books, publishing articles in Russian and English and studying Italian.  My scientific interests are the EU global actorness, Russian-EU relationship, Russian-Italian relationship. So far I have written one book entitled "Italy chooses the EU".

All my articles (both scientific and informal) can be found on my blog --- capriciosa.ru.
