17th CEI International Summer School

Beyond Enlargement.
The Wider Europe and the New Neighbourhood

Faenza, Palazzo dei Naldi di Bondiolo
Via San Giovanni Bosco 1- Faenza - Italy

The CEI International Summer School "Beyond Enlargement. The Wider Europe and the New Neighbourhood" will take place in Faenza, from Sunday 4th to Saturday 17th September 2011.

Organized by the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica and supported by the European Commission, DG Enlargement and the Central European Initiative, the 17th International Summer School "Beyond Enlargement. The Wider Europe and the New Neighbourhood" will take place in Faenza (Italy) from September 4th to 17th, 2011.

A prominent international Faculty together with a widely differentiated group of participants from various countries will provide an ideal environment where to analyse and discuss about the problems of the Enlarged Europe. Furthermore, the development of interpersonal and intercultural relationships between East and West Europeans and the shared learning about political issues of common concern will be an added value of the school.

Split in two groups, the participants will attend lectures, seminars and workshops focusing on democratic development, human rights, peace and security issues, European integration on the one hand (Course A: "Diversity Management, Governance and the Role of Civil Society Networks") , and economic growth and commerce based on new technologies, institutions and work practices, as well as on integration factors and the new policies of EU neighbourhood on the other (Course B: "Sustainable Development, Green Economy and the Role of Civil Society Networks") .

All participants will benefit from interdisciplinary events, that will take the form of interactive workshops, panel discussions, and keynote speeches. We will be glad to host Colette Daiute (City University of New York) speaking about "Political violence and youthful narratives of community change" during the Opening Session of the Summer School on Sept. 5th. Moreover, Dimitris Kourkoulas (DG Enlargement, European Commission) will address the participants with a reflexion on both the achievements and challenges linked to the EU enlargement on Sept. 12th. During the school the participants will also meet and discuss with two MEPs: Vittorio Prodi will give a speech on sustainable development as a key to peace on Sept. 9th, whereas Jelko Kacin will close the Summer School on Sept. 16th speaking about the destiny for Europe in the 21st century.

The participants whose overall performance will be positively evaluated will receive a certificate endorsed by the University of Bologna, yielding 6 ECTS points.
