Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe

Call for applications A.Y. 2011-2012: deadline 7 September 2011, 17.00 h

The European Regional Master's Degree in Human Rights and Democracy in South East Europe (ERMA) is an intensive one-year Master programme established through the joint efforts of the participating universities and coordinated by the Universities of Sarajevo and Bologna. At present it is in its tenth year of implementation. The Programme is co-financed by the European Commission and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the academic year 2011/2012 ERMA shall be implemented as a double degree programme: one diploma will be issued by the University of Sarajevo and one by the University of Bologna.

The Master Programme bears 60 ECTS and is structured in three terms/two semesters:

  • November 2011 – June 2012: Lecturing period at the University of Sarajevo (semester I);
  • June – July 2012: Internship work across South East Europe and
  • September – October 2012: Master's Theses writing-up period at the University of Bologna (semester II).

The teaching activities involve renowned Faculty members coming from more than 25 European and other countries. Internships take place at various regional NGOs, IGOs, think-tanks and research institutes dealing with issues of human rights and democracy in South East Europe. The third term is hosted by the University of Bologna Residential Centers in Italy.

Each academic year the Programme enrolls 30 students from the countries of South East Europe and the European Union. Starting from the academic year 2011-2012 applications from the Caucasus and Russia shall also be accepted. The university degree of the applicants must be earned during studies lasting either 4 or 5 years within the former undergraduate studies provisions, or 5 years (3+2) within I and II cycle studies provisions in accordance with the Bologna process.

The application process for the academic year 2011/2012 is now open. The deadline for the full application package to be received is: 7 September 2011, 17.00 h.

The selection of candidates will be performed by the Executive Board of this Master Program on the basis of submitted applications and required documents in English (complete application form, a certified copy of the university diploma; original or certified copy of academic record/transcripts; certificate of proficiency in English; copy of passport; certificate of citizenship; birth certificate; Curriculum Vitae in English, and two recommendation letters) . The tuition fee is determined for each academic year by the Executive Board of the program. Full tuition fee waiver is available only for the citizens of the countries of South East Europe involved in the program (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo) . All students are eligible for grants.

PECOB's call for papers

The Scientific Board of PECOB announces an open call for papers to be published with ISSN 2038-632X

Interested contributors may deal with any topic focusing on the political, economic, historical, social or cultural aspects of a specific country or region covered by PECOB.

Potential contributors must submit a short abstract (200-300 words) and the full text, which can be in English as well as any language from the countries covered by PECOB.

Upcoming deadlines for submitting proposals are:

June 30th, 2011
November 30th, 2011
