The Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica and the Fondazione Garzanti are organizing the International Round Table entitled
The New Presidential Elections in Russia and the Challenges of Modernization
which will take place in Forlì on 21st and 22nd October 2011.
In the framework of the Italian-Russian Forlì Days initiative, every year since 2005 the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica has organized an international meeting as a regular appointment for prominent speakers and well-known experts and scholars to gather in Forlì and discuss relevant topics on the relationship between the European Union and Russia.
As 2011 has been declared the Year of Russian culture and Russian language in Italy and the Year of Italian culture and Italian language in Russia, with the support of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs this year's meeting will be one of the events organized as part of the Italy-Russia Year 2011.
The conference will provide a forum for discussing the problems Russia will be facing in the near future, with a particular focus on the country's political and technological transition towards a more modern socio-economic system. The main issues up for discussion will be Russian institutions and administration, European and international dimensions of Russian trade and diplomacy, and the extent to which the Eurozone crisis could affect the EU-Russia relationship.
The event is jointly promoted by the Interregional Non-Governmental Organization for Promotion of Cultural Cooperation with EU Countries (Moscow) , the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica and the Fondazione Garzanti, in collaboration with the Master's Programme in Interdisciplinary Research and Studies in Eastern Europe (MIREES), the Italian Association of Slavists (AIS) and Punto Europa.
