Abstract

The paper deals with Slavonic folklore and its influence upon literature. Here the term “folklore" covers oral epics, fairy stories, popular traditions and superstitions; the meaning of "literature" is restricted to XII century chronicles and written epics and also to XV century pseudo-hagiographic compositions. The essay – addressed to non-initiated educated readers – is the result of an original contribution to the meeting "La terra dell'Uccello di fuoco" (Fire-bird Land) held in Bolzano (Italy) in May 2004.

The author shows that neither official annalistic prose – written by monks – nor cultivated epics composed in Christian times are free from reference to myths and beliefs which go back to Slavonic...

Politics, Culture and Religion in the Post-Secular World

From May 12th to May 13th the Institute for East-Central Europe and the Balkans hosted the Italian - Russian conference “Politics, culture and religion in the postsecular world”, organized with the cooperation of the “Tor Vergata” University of Rome, in the framework of a broader scientific project which will end in February 2012 with another seminar on the same theme.

The conference was organized in three sections, each focused on a scientific perspective for analyzing the post secularism phenomenon.

More than 170 university academics, European policy-makers, ERMA students and alumni, and civil society activists gathered in Sarajevo on the 29th and 30th April 2011 in the premises of the Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies of the University of Sarajevo (CIPS) to discuss the challenges of accepting diversities and of recognizing them as a wealth for the development of societies. PECOB's call for papers

The Scientific Board of PECOB announces an open call for papers to be published with ISSN 2038-632X

Interested contributors may deal with any topic focusing on the political, economic, historical, social or cultural aspects of a specific country or region covered by PECOB.

Potential contributors must submit a short abstract (200-300 words) and the full text, which can be in English as well as any language from the countries covered by PECOB.

Upcoming deadlines for submitting proposals are:

January 31st, 2011
June 30th, 2011
November 30th, 2011

All texts must comply with PECOB Submission Guidelines (www.pecob.eu).
